The folding cockpit doors of the Falcon 10 will soon be part of SpaceX’s upcoming Dragon capsule.
The Falcon Heavy and the Falcon Heavy-class launch vehicles, which are based on the company’s Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy, will have the foldable cockpit doors on the uppermost sections of their fuselages.
The folding doors will help keep the Falcon vehicles more stable during re-entry and landing, and will also help keep cargo on the spacecraft more tightly packed.
NASA expects the fold-down doors to be deployed sometime in 2021.
The Dragon spacecraft will be launched atop an Atlas V rocket to an altitude of about 4,500 miles (6,100 kilometers), according to a NASA press release.
